This weekend the Belgian youth championship for athletics will take place in Louvain-la-Neuve. In the girls cadets, Guinevere Cruyts from Nieuwerkerken ran into a heap of opposition and won the Belgian title in the 400 meters by force majeure.

Guinevere Cruyts (14) is affiliated with athletics club TACT Sint-Truiden and has been stringing together titles and club records in various disciplines for years. She now went to the Belgian championship to participate in the 400 meters indoor, a distance in which she can also call herself Limburg and Flemish champion. Guinevere completed the 400 meters in 58:37, while all her competitors went over the minute. “I really hoped for a time under 59 seconds, so I’m super happy. I would like to thank my trainer Alin Follon from TACT Sint-Truiden who prepared me for this match. And I also received a lot of support from the Tia Hellebaut Academy, where I also train twice a week,” Guinevere responds with a gold medal around her neck. And she is already looking ahead: “Soon the outdoor season will start and I hope to run the 400 meters under 58 seconds.” len
