Gims angry at the Victoires de la Musique: why does the rapper want to organize his own awards ceremony?

In 2016, he won a Victoire de la Musique for his Original Song of the Year, “Sapped as ever”. And since then, nothing else, despite a career that makes him prance at the top of the hit parade. And Gims is not happy! This Wednesday, August 3, the rapper and husband of DemDem pushed a rant against the award ceremony.

I want to organize my Victoires de la Musique”

The interpreter of “To give everything” felt that the classification of the different genres was not fair. He detailed: “We are put into categories. When we talk about urban album of the year, it’s like saying ‘it’s the sub-album of the year’, it’s pejorative. We have to stop with that”.

For the high mass of French music to be fairer, the singing star asked that rap no longer be a separate musical style. He assured: “There are different styles of music, pop, rock, rap… but when there are competitions like that, you can’t win the album of the year on one side and the urban album of the year of the other, he still pointed the finger. We must win the one who has sold the most“.

>> To see also: Jean-Jacques Goldman refused to make a song with the brother of Gims… it is unexpected!

This is why Gims announced: “I want to organize my Victoires de la Musique”. To achieve this, the one who was released a few months ago by Valérie Pécresse adds: “I am making a call for tenders directly, I am addressing French billionaires. For culture“.

Same thing in the United States

A movement that is already taking place in the United States with the Grammy Awards. In this competition, the lack of diversity is an issue each year for Album, Song and Record of the Year, as well as Best New Artist. Many stars and anonymous people complain that they don’t find rap and R’n’B, which are very popular, with artists like Beyoncé, Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Drake, Jay-Z, Mariah Carey or even John Legend.

The latter may have won all the prizes in their category, but they are struggling to impose themselves in the major categories, which most often go to pop, rock, jazz or country artists.
