“Boring shit”
Ridley Scott gossips about superhero films

Ridley Scott has also created quite a few heroes of the screen – from “Gladiator” to “Robin Hood” to “Thelma & Louise”. The star director, on the other hand, cannot do anything with the numerous superheroes in comic book adaptations, as he now explains. He is not alone in his opinion.

Another directing legend is tough on the superhero genre. In an interview with the US website “Deadline”, Sir Ridley Scott didn’t leave a good hair with Marvel and DC films. In his opinion, most of them are “boring shit” and have lousy scripts.

Once in motion, Scott really pulls off the leather: “Why don’t superhero films have better plots? (…) Most of the time, they only save themselves with special effects.” In his opinion, the best films are carried by their characters, but the countless Marvel warriors were simply not good for that.

As the first director, Martin Scorsese had dealt against the genre. The “Taxi Driver” maker compared comic book adaptations with attractions in amusement parks and concluded that they were “no cinema”.

“Turned Into Zombies”

“Dune” director Denis Villeneuve also recently expressed criticism. The New Musical Express (NME) quoted him as saying, “Perhaps the problem is that we are faced with too many Marvel films that are nothing more than ‘copy and paste’ the other.” He even feared that “these types of films have turned us into zombies,” says Villeneuve.

Ridley Scott is one of the most renowned directors in Hollywood and has realized numerous cult films and blockbusters – from “Alien” (1979) and “Blade Runner” (1982) to “Thelma & Louise” (1991) and “Gladiator” (2000) to “Robin Hood” (2010) and most recently “The Last Duel” (2021).
