A week after the resignation of Corinne Diacre as national coach of the French national team, a successor is being looked for. A surprising name was in the pipeline.
In France it was all hands on deck with a view to the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand. The French are one of the favorites there.
Wendie Renard, Kadidiatou Diani and Marie-Antoinette Katoto decided to quit the national team a few weeks ago, after which national coach Corinne Diacre was fired as a bitten dog.
Thierry Henry was mentioned as one of the possible successors. The French Football Federation certainly sounded him out.
But Henry did not accept the offer: “He considered it, but the answer was ultimately a no,” said Olympique Lyon’s Jean-Michel Aulas at Le Figaro.
Projects
Henry apparently prefers other projects and therefore does not want to work with the French Football Association towards the World Cup in Australia and New Zealand.
There are other candidates who are or have been polled. The French want a replacement as soon as possible.
