Fire: 220 hectares go up in smoke on the borders of Aude and Hérault

The fire originated in the Hérault and ravaged the scrubland near Aigne before spreading to the Aude, to Mailhac in particular.

A new fire broke out between Aude and Hérault this Friday afternoon. In Mailhac, the vines of the Domaine de la Tasque partially burned down. More than 300 firefighters from Hérault and Aude as well as civil security worked all afternoon but also all night to push back the fire despite the wind. Four canadairs who carried out numerous drops as well as two planes which projected retardant more than 1 km long came to lend a hand to the firefighters on the scene.

The PCS 1 was triggered on Mailhac and all the elected officials mobilized with the firefighters and the villagers who were very worried about their village and for some their homes, in fact the fire was near the heights of the village and risked approaching the houses. Mailhac has already experienced a fire in 2016, the spirits are still very marked.

The Landure estate was evacuated as a precaution, the castle protected by firefighters did not burn. A resident of the Saint-Jean de Caps estate was also evacuated to Bize. A thunderstorm that broke out at 8 p.m. failed to bring the fire under control. In all, 220 hectares went up in smoke.

Saturday morning, the fire was extinguished but under close surveillance. All day, the firefighters remained on the alert, in particular because of the wind. Vigilance should be maintained tonight. The investigation was entrusted to the gendarmerie of Olonzac which will have to determine the origin of the fire.
