farokh engineer on dhawan: i don’t think a player of his caliber should be on trial; farokh engineer on shikhar dhawan’s t20 world cup snub

  • Dhawan not found in the upcoming T20 World Cup squad
  • World Cup will be held in UAE-Oman from October 17
  • India will start its campaign against Pakistan

New Delhi
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced its 15-man squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup. The tournament will be held in UAE and Oman from October 17 to November 14.

Many surprising names were also included in the Indian team selected for the World Cup. While R Ashwin returned to the limited overs team after 4 years, on the other hand, left-handed openers Shikhar Dhawan, Yuzvendra Chahal, Kuldeep Yadav and Krunal Pandya did not find a place.

KL Rahul got preference in place of Dhawan, while Rahul Chahar was included in Team India in place of Chahal. Former Indian wicket-keeper batsman Farooq Engineer says that he is surprised that Dhawan is not in the team.

Farokh Engineer said in a conversation with Sports Tak, ‘Shikhar Dhawan… well, I am surprised that he has been dropped because he has come back before and has done brilliantly. But this is such a big problem for the Indian selectors that players like Dhawan are being dropped, which is a big disappointment, as he will walk into any international team as a batsman. He has proved himself time and again and I don’t think a player of his caliber should be on trial.

Dhawan has scored the most runs in the ongoing IPL 2021. He recently captained Team India on the Sri Lanka tour. Dhawan’s personal life is also disturbed at this time. Recently, news of Dhawan and Ayesha Mukherjee’s divorce also surfaced.

The engineer said, ‘But who will you drop? KL has done a great job. I think he is one of the best batsmen in the world. Rohit Sharma is at the top of his form at the moment. Still, I think it’s a very good team. I think we have a chance to win the T20 World Cup.

BCCI has appointed Mahendra Singh Dhoni as mentor for the T20 World Cup. Under Dhoni’s captaincy, the Indian team has won 3 ICC titles.
