Ernesto Čekan surprised with a confession: I’m a voyeur and I can’t control it!

Ernesto, the premiere of your latest play You are not a woman, sir! in the Radek Brzobohatý Theater is behind you and I wonder what your immediate feelings are?

“I would say, if I were to indulge in my feelings now, that they are thoroughly good. I’m still going to hear what others have to say about it, but I’m happy with it. Even if the game ends with me rather sad.”

But again “married”

“Yes. I didn’t do very well there. So I may seem sad, but I’m in a good mood.”

The game You are not a woman, sir! he wrote Karel Janák. As an actor, is it different for you to portray long-dead classics and contemporary living authors who capture the events and issues of today?

“I would say that there is a difference. For example, when we played Cyrano in verse, it was a bit more declaimed than the current conversation piece. Otherwise, I think that a person must go into everything with his heart, mind and nature.”

Do you have a pre-premiere ritual that you follow?

“Probably not much.”

Ernesto Čekan on writing spicy messages: Better face to face

Do you ever get nervous before a premiere?

“I live, but I try not to be. So I try to imagine that it’s not a premiere and I go to work normally. Play as normal. Because stage fright can help, if it’s small. But when a person is full of it, it can spoil a lot of things.”

You spent a significant portion of the endgame wearing women’s heels. What is it like for you not only to stand and walk on them, but also to run?

“I expected much worse. I try to stay on my toes. I run around in them because I feel like it’s fun and the character I’m playing can’t walk on them much yet. I guess if I had to go really elegant, it would take me a while. But by learning from them, it doesn’t seem so terrible. I haven’t sprained my leg yet.’

I’m just wondering if you had any injuries during the rehearsals, such as a sprained ankle or a sore knee?

“I make sure it doesn’t happen. I hope it will not happen. That’s why I tiptoe.”

Your character has a very unexpected development. At the very beginning, online dating is behind the plot. Have you ever used internet dating services in your personal life?

“No, I never used that. First of all, in my youth I enjoyed hunting normally live. And secondly, I settled down fairly early and wasn’t looking for anything like that.’

If not online dating sites, what about you and social networks and contact with fans through them? How are you doing?

“You can say stupid. I’m more of a voyeur. I look at that Facebook quite a lot – I don’t write much there, but I see what other people think.’
