Energy crisis: the price of this product will continue to soar in supermarkets

Toilet paper manufacturers are also suffering from the energy crisis. Following the soaring prices of gas and raw materials, this product sees its price increase for consumers.

Manufacturing being very energy-intensive, the price of toilet paper is directly influenced by the price of energy. This now represents 50% of the cost of production, against 10 to 15% previously, indicate our colleagues from the Nieuwsblad.

“Both increases started last year and the war in Ukraine only accelerated the trend. And then there is the increase in labor costs,” explains Thomas Davreux, managing director of InDUfed, the federation of Belgian companies producing and converting paper and cardboard.

Should we fear scenes such as we experienced during the pandemic? Thomas Davreux reassures: there will be no shortage of toilet paper in the months to come.
