Drought: 88 departments on alert, water restrictions in Ile-de-France

After two periods of intense heat waves, France is showing a worrying level of general drought. 88 departments are on alert and many municipalities have restricted the use of water.

According to Météo France, the first two weeks of July were the driest in the country’s history. A hardly surprising fact when the second heat wave of the season dried up the soil and the French people. This Sunday, 88 departments were placed in state of emergency by their prefecture, because of the drought worrying in the country. In Essonnemany municipalities had to prohibit the use of water under certain conditions, to limit breakage.

It is thus more than half of the French territory which is affected by this soil aridity, requiring orders.
