Fresh from the success of Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, available yesterday on Disney +, Benedict Cumberbatch faces his future as Stephen Strange in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
After the stratospheric success at the box office, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness is available from yesterday on Disney + and is topic trending on Twitter. Meanwhile the star Benedict Cumberbatch anticipates the possibility of the arrival of Doctor Strange 3.
After debuting as Supreme Sorcerer Stephen in 2016’s Doctor Strange, Benedict Cumberbatch has become a pivotal figure in the MCU. His Doctor Strange appeared in six films and had a central role in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has sanctioned the enormous success, representing the culmination of the character, but at the moment his future in the MCU appears uncertain.
Although Doctor Strange 2 opens up many possibilities for the future of the MCU, barely scratches the surface of what the multiverse has to offer. Plus, the ending creates a lot of potential storylines for Strange himself. On the one hand, he develops the Third Eye, which could affect his power level when we find him on the big screen. In the finale, Strange also meets Clea (Charlize Theron) who warns him that she has caused a raid and must fix it. Both of these things will likely play a role in the future of Doctor Strange’s MCU and how it develops.
Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness: 10 things you may not have noticed
In a recent interview with The New Indian Express, Benedict Cumberbatch was asked about the possibility of Doctor Strange 3. The actor made it clear that he was open to the idea by explaining:
“I hope that happens. I’d love to do another one. Doctor Strange is such a complex character and there seems to be a lot more to explore about him. He’s such a brilliant character and I’m still having fun playing him.”.
Whereas Doctor Strange 2 ends with a sign stating “Doctor Strange will be back”, Cumberbatch is likely to reprise his role at some point. However, it’s unclear whether it will happen first in Doctor Strange 3 or another movie. Since a full-blown sequel is probably far in time, it shouldn’t surprise us to find the character first in another project, as happened in Spider-Man: No Way Home. The ball now goes to Marvel, while fans are waiting to find out more.
