Dispute with BBC before escalation?
William and Kate should draw conclusions
In the documentary “The Princes and the Press” the BBC wants to uncover special ties between the British royal family and the press. However, the royals are anything but agree with the representation. First they protest, now further consequences are to follow.
Prince William and Duchess Kate have allegedly canceled a planned Christmas special on the British broadcaster BBC. The reason for this is said to be the controversial documentary “The Princes and the Press” which the station aired.
According to reports, the Christmas charity event hosted by Duchess Kate at Westminster Abbey could instead be shown on the private broadcaster ITV. Prince William should also be present at the concert.
An industry insider said, according to “The Sun”: “It was all arranged for BBC1, but it has been changed in the past few days because of the terrible dispute over the documentary.” The problems between the royal family and the BBC could get even bigger, the quoted informant speculates. “The Princes and the Press” consists of two parts, so far only the first half has been shown. The second part of the documentary threatens to “go further”, according to the insider.
Kate’s Christmas special is supposed to be a new format. According to The Sun, the royals have never put on a television concert before. And to have the Duchess as your hostess is “a big deal”.
In the first part of “The Princes and the Press” speculations arose, among other things, according to which Prince William and his brother Prince Harry would have used the press to make life difficult for each other. According to media reports, the documentary broadcast on BBC 2 said the princes had revealed accusations against each other to journalists.[display-posts orderby="rand"]
The Royals rejected the allegations. The royal family even opposed the BBC in a joint statement by Buckingham Palace, Kensington Palace and Clarence House. The public broadcaster showed this at the end of the episode. It says that an independent press is important for democracy. The statement goes on: “However, all too often exaggerated and unsubstantiated claims from unnamed sources are presented as fact and it is disappointing when someone, including the BBC, gives them credibility.”
The relationship between the brothers is said to have been badly strained since Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry accused the royal family of racism in an interview with Oprah Winfrey. The second episode of the documentary, which will be broadcast on November 29th, will focus on the past four years. In 2018, Prince Harry married the US actress Meghan Markle. A year later, the couple’s firstborn son Archie was born. At the beginning of 2020, Meghan and Harry withdrew from their royal duties, moved to California and had a daughter with Lilibet in June 2021.
In the TV interview with Oprah Winfrey, which aired in early March 2021, Meghan and Harry claimed that a member of the royal family had raised “concerns” about “how dark” their son Archie’s skin was. They did not give the name of the person. Meghan also said that she had mental health problems during her time at the palace and that she was denied help.
