The PS wishes to lead without delay the debate on the vaccination obligation for the entire population from the age of 18, the cabinet of Elio Di Rupo confirmed on Tuesday the intention of the Minister-President to put the file on the table. “Today, we are going to take a series of measures and check whether these measures bear fruit,” he told Bel RTL.

“But if the measures don’t bear fruit, we’re not going to shut down entire sectors again. Therefore, the medium-term solution is compulsory vaccination. It puts the entire population on an equal footing and makes it possible to no longer have groups that feel discriminated against. The question should not be decided on Wednesday. Prime Minister Alexander De Croo has already described this measure as “a false good idea”.

No exclusion

Elio Di Rupo also returned to the agreement reached within the federal kern concerning the compulsory vaccination of nursing staff. This may lead, if necessary, to the withdrawal of access to the profession of a caregiver and to his dismissal from April. Since then, the PS, although in the federal majority, opposes the dismissal.

“We are not there to exclude them, but to make healthcare facilities safe and secure. I am totally opposed to firing unvaccinated people. The Walloon Minister-President is pleading instead to suspend the contract, while granting unemployment benefit. “We must find human solutions,” he concluded.
