The multiverse finally robs Marvel Death of its terror, which of course has its downsides, but also allows the return of several stars.
– Warning: Spoilers for “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” follow! –
The 28th film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) finally plunges us and its characters into the multiverse. “Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” lives up to its title and accordingly we also see several new versions of well-known characters from other universes, including variations on the protagonist Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch).
In the run-up to the theatrical release, however, the appearance of , which was revealed early, caused more excitement Patrick Stewart as Charles Xavier aka Professor X. Making his MCU debut in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, he’s also fittingly the first official member of the franchise’s mutant group, as the leader of the X-Men.
And as has become almost a tradition, Charles Xavier died right in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. As a member of the Illuminati, like the other Marvel heroes Scarlet Witch (Elizabeth Olsen), he could not oppose him, who broke his neck in their telepathic duel. That is already the third Marvel death by Patrick Stewart, after his character of Charles Xavier was already atomized by Phoenix (Femke Jansen) in “X-Men: The Last Stand” and stabbed to death by a Wolverine clone (Hugh Jackman) in “Logan”.
Our following video tells you how things could continue after the turbulent events with Doctor Strange:
Will we see Patrick Stewart again in the MCU?
Accordingly, Stewart looks relaxed on his renewed screen death, because after all he (so far) still came back. He reacted accordingly to the question in the interview Varietywhether there is a chance of another appearance as Professor X, with the words:
“Yes. There could be. You know, the whole X-Men comic series is so massive, so vast, it might give an opportunity through which he returns. We will see.”
While the X-Men are now officially in the MCU, there are no official plans as to when or how they will play a major role there. MCU boss Kevin Feige recently announced that he is currently working on the next 10 years of the franchise, in which the mutants will certainly also be prominently represented.
To what extent Patrick Stewart then fits in there as Charles Xavier is questionable. After all, he is already 81 years old, so those responsible will probably look for a younger Professor X for the future of the MCU, unless James McAvoy wants to take on the role again, which he says he could do without.
Thanks to the multiverse, another appearance by Patrick Stewart as Professor X would definitely be possible, after all there are countless worlds out there where the Marvel hero exists in this form. Especially since the X-Men actor should obviously never be written off. Who would have thought after Logan that Stewart would reprise the role five years later in the MCU?
In the MCU, characters regularly die. Do you remember how the following Marvel characters got hit?
