DC movies will be inspired by the MCU

During a shareholder presentation (via Comic Book), the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery’s David Zaslav confirmed that major changes are afoot at DC.

The executive wants a greater focus on large franchises, as well as building a more cohesive brand.

He openly admitted an inspiration to Marvel Studios, which has had great success with the MCU, today’s premier shared universe.

This inspiration is so great that Alan Horn, who for years worked for Disney, will serve as a consultant for Warner Bros. Discovery.

Additionally, the CEO of Warner Bros. Discovery revealed that a team is working on a roughly 10-year plan for DC in film.

This should ensure greater cohesion between productions, but it is still unclear who is part of this team.

“We have a team working on a 10-year plan, focusing only on DC. It’s very similar to the structure that Alan Horn and Bob Iger put together, very efficiently, with Kevin Feige at Disney.”

“We think we can have a much more solid and sustainable growth business in the long term from DC.”

Big changes in progress

David Zaslav added that what they’re doing is valuing and protecting the brand in a way that hasn’t been done before.

“Our goal, in addition to growing DC over the next few years with its characters, is to protect the brand.”

“We’re not going to market a movie that we don’t believe in, especially as far as DC is concerned.”

DC’s next big theatrical release is Black Adam with Dwayne Johnson, which arrives October 20, 2022.
