Cult striker of Orange, blown as a coach: ADO Den Haag fires Dirk Kuyt

Dirk Kuyt’s coaching career has had a false start. The 104-time international did not get ADO Den Haag to work this season and has now been fired by the club management of the residents of The Hague.

ADO, which narrowly missed promotion under coach Giovanni Franken last season, is currently seventeenth. Only four of the sixteen games led by Kuyt were won.

Although a dismissal of Kuyt had been hanging over the market for some time, it still came as a bolt from the blue. This week the trainer went paintballing with the selection. Kuyt ended his playing career in 2017 with the championship at Feyenoord and then started a coaching career. Kuyt had hoped to be able to work at Feyenoord in the long term, but his first major job as head coach at ADO Den Haag ended in a major disappointment.
