It’s hard to believe that seven years have passed since veteran George Miller spoiled the action competition with “Mad Max: Fury Road”. “How can you top this fabulous action!?” The post-apocalyptic end-of-times action film was a visual slap in the f*esse that had you so seated in the cinema that the operators were sure to swap seats after each showing were allowed. Even Charlize Theron, who is said to have hated her co-star Tom Hardy and the filming, was forgiving thanks to the finished masterpiece. She would even have been willing to return as Furiosa one more time, that says it all.

In fact, filming is closed “Mad Max: Furiosa” finally started in Australia after some teething problems. However, this time it is the prequel to Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa, so the younger version is embodied by Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Queen’s Gambit”). Taylor-Joy also stars Chris Hemsworth (“Thor: Love and Thunder”), Tom Burke (“Only God Forgives”) and Fury Road returnees Nathan Jones as Rictus Erectus and Angus Sampson.

All that was known about the plot so far was that it should show how Furiosa became Immortan Joe’s Emperor. The official synopsis now released by Warner Bros. reveals other crucial details that should make fans howl with anticipation, because nothing other than the legendary Wasteland War is announced here (via Screen Rant):

Kidnapped from the green city of many mothers, young Furiosa (Anya Taylor-Joy) falls into the hands of warlord Dementus and his biker gang. As they journey through the Wasteland, they eventually come across the Citadel, an artificial oasis ruled by Immortan Joe. An ominous meeting, because the world doesn’t offer enough space for two tyrants. And right in the middle of the war: young Furiosa trying to survive.

Since filming has just started, it will likely take until 2024 for Mad Max: Furiosa to hit theaters. What you can experience in the near future, you can see in the video.

Who is playing who in Mad Max: Furiosa?

All that is currently known is that Anya Taylor-Joy will play the young Furiosa. So who’s playing Immortan Joe? And who becomes Dr. dementia? Rumor has it that Tom Burke could play the younger Immortan Joe, who was portrayed by Hugh Keays-Byrne in ‘Fury Road’. However, Burke came on board for Yahya Abdul-Mateen II. And the Aquaman star certainly wasn’t cast as Immortan Joe. However, Burke could appear as his son Scabrous Scrotus. As such, he would have a crucial role in fighting the enemy Dr. dementia.

On the other hand, it is almost certain that Chris Hemsworth as that warlord Dementus aka Dr. dementia will emerge. The 38-year-old Marvel star fits the described role as a thirty-something who is said to be handsome but disfigured by a large scar. And Hemsworth recently proved he can do nasty roles with The Spider’s Head. Playing the man who starts a big war and sort of brings Furiosa together with Immortan Joe should be a nice change of pace from his role as thunder god Thor. It is not known whether Max Rockatansky (Tom Hardy) will make an appearance. While there are set images purportedly showing his Interceptor, it shouldn’t be more than a cameo appearance.

Whoever plays whom, we can look forward to the first official pictures of “Mad Max: Furiosa”. And until then you can let off steam with this cult film quiz:
