While France is still in the process of vaccinating the 3rd doses, alongside the first and second injections, the question of the 4th dose, although “premature”, is already under study, according to the Ministry of Health .
On December 21, Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced that all Israelis over 60 years, but also the medical staff and the immunosuppressed people, were going to be able to receive a 4th dose of vaccine, at least four months after their third dose, in order to deal with the spread of the Omicron variant in the country.
A measure that did not go unnoticed in France: the campaign for the 3rd dose just launched, discussions on a fourth dose were already emerging. From December, Olivier Véran admitted that the implementation of a second booster dose was possible in France.
On January 6, Jean Castex admitted, moreover, that the government was only waiting for theendorsement by health authorities to launch a new vaccination campaign. “The Israelis did so after consulting their health authorities (…). As soon as our health authorities have said yes, probably for the most fragile people, if we are told ‘we are going’, we will go ” he declared.
This Tuesday, January 11, 2022, the Ministry of Health indicated, during a press briefing, that the issue of 4th dose for the elderly and at risk was currently studied by the French health authorities. “The COSV (Guidance Council of the vaccine strategy, Editor’s note) must deliver an opinion on this subject and we have also referred the matter to the Haute Autorité de santé on the issue of the fourth dose. “ indicated the ministry which expects from these organizations the “to behave”.
People from over 65 and those who had been vaccinated with Janssen had to do their booster dose before December 15, 2021, to be able to keep their health pass. The majority of the elderly and at risk have therefore already taken their second or third dose.
So should they prepare to receive a new vaccine around April or May? And will this fourth dose also be obligatory to keep the health pass or future vaccination pass? Impossible to answer these questions before knowing the position of the various health organizations in France and in Europe.
