Coronavirus: no agreement yet on measures to deal with staff cuts

The omicron variant of the coronavirus threatens to lead to widespread staff cuts. In order to prevent companies from having to close their doors due to a shortage of staff, unions and employers are negotiating exceptional flexibility in the workplace.

For employers, this is a matter of urgency. They are pushing for overtime to be more flexible for people already working in the companies, and on the other hand, they are asking for the possibility of attracting additional staff.

Unions, meanwhile, fear that the added flexibility will become structural. They therefore call for temporary and proportional measures.

The social partners, meeting in the Group of Ten, will continue negotiations next week.
