Coronavirus in Belgium: more than 20,000 infections per day on average since the start of the year

More than a quarter of the tests are now positive: nearly 78,800 tests were carried out daily for a positivity rate of 26.2%.

During this period, an average of 18.3 people died per day from the virus (-24%), bringing the toll to around 28,500 deaths since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

Between January 4 and January 10, there were an average of 182 hospital admissions per day due to coronavirus, an increase of 17% from the previous reporting period. In total, 1,962 people are still hospitalized due to Covid-19, including 437 patients treated in intensive care (-16%).

The virus’s reproduction rate is 1.08. When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic is tending to accelerate. The incidence, which indicates the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants reached 1,897 over 14 days.

Since the start of the pandemic in Belgium, more than 2.3 million coronavirus infections have been diagnosed.
