Cars will no longer be able to drive on the Tour & Taxis site from 2023

Tour & Taxis announced on Tuesday major changes in terms of mobility for 2023. Indeed, from next year, cars will no longer be able to circulate in this Brussels district. Tour & Taxis wants to ensure that all amenities are accessible on foot and therefore wants to favor soft mobility.

The main entrance to Tour & Taxis, located at 86c Avenue du Port, will no longer be accessible to cars from next year. However, the passage will be widened to give more generous access to pedestrians and cyclists wishing to reach Place de la Musique or the Tour & Taxis park. The shuttle service linking the district to the Gare du Nord will no longer stop in front of the Royal Warehouse. The new stops will be located on Avenue du Port and Rue Picard, where there will also be a parking area reserved for taxis and delivery people.

Tour & Taxis is an example of a lively and dynamic district where everything is accessible within five minutes, according to Michel Van Geyte, CEO of Nextensa, but also investor and real estate developer in this district. “Everything you need is within walking distance. When car traffic becomes superfluous, soft mobility takes over,” he explains.

Only underground parking will be possible from 2023 on the Tour & Taxis site. The Esplanade car park will have a new access via the Drève Anna Boch and will be able to accommodate 300 vehicles. Park Lane, located rue Picard, near the Gare Maritime will be able to accommodate 900 cars. Tour & Taxis also announced the opening of a new underground bike park with a capacity of 700 spaces under the Sheds.
