Salary: £32 – 34,000 per annum dependent on experience

As part of the Communications department, the Corporate Communications team tells the story of Cancer Research UK through the media to help build understanding of our purpose and encourage support for our work.

The team work on innovative and exciting PR for fundraising campaigns including Stand Up To Cancer and Race for Life as well as Cancer Research UK’s strategic communications. We are looking for people with a passion for communications and some strong experience behind them.

What will I be doing…

As a senior officer, you’ll plan, prepare and execute communications activities and campaigns that support the charity’s fundraising and corporate activities. Reporting into the senior manager, you’ll join a team of senior officers and officers with a range of communications skills and backgrounds.

This role will have a 75% focus on Corporate comms and 25% focus on consumer media, supporting our fundraising campaigns

We’re looking for someone with experience and/or understanding of corporate comms as this role will focus on our fundraising, corporate and philanthropy comms.

Make an impact every day by…

  • Project managing campaigns and events with light-touch support from a senior manager

  • Receiving and responding to media enquiries, and advising/briefing spokespeople on media opportunities

  • Leading on issues management and crisis management with support from a senior manager

  • Devising bold, ambitious content and story ideas to sell-in to national media and use across multiple comms channels

  • Helping Cancer Research UK tell its story in an impactful way across multiple channels and audiences

What are skills are we looking for?

  • Significant experience working in PR (in house or agency)

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • A good knowledge and demonstrable understanding of the media landscape

  • Able to confidently identify and solve problems with minimal guidance and show resilience in the face of challenging situations

  • Confidence in working with and advising stakeholders, and senior staff (including CEO and executive board)

  • Able to use your own initiative to prioritise day-to-day tasks, meet deadlines and make decisions within established guidelines and policies

  • Able to provide support and guidance to colleagues

  • Experience or demonstrable understanding of corporate communications
