But no new “Pirates of the Caribbean” movie: Margot Robbie reveals the end of a planned spin-off

Actually, a “Pirates of the Caribbean” spin-off with Margot Robbie should come. The actress has now commented on the project.

It’s been five years since we last set sail with Captain Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) in Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales. Even if “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” has been under discussion for several years, the future of the franchise is not yet secured. What was certain, however, was that the pirate adventure should also continue away from the main series.

“Pirates of the Caribbean” producer Jerry Bruckheimer was planning one spin offwhich was supposed to be about a protagonist, that of Harley Quinn actress Margot Robbie should be played. This project has now probably been scrapped by Disney, the actress indicated in a conversation Vanity Fair has declared:

“We had an idea and developed it for a while, ages ago. A more woman-led story – not entirely woman-led but just a different kind of story – which we would have thought was really cool but I guess they don’t want to do it.

Script for Pirates of the Caribbean 6 is in progress

In fact, a screenwriter has already been found for the Pirates of the Caribbean spin-off: Christina Hodson, who previously worked with Margot Robbie on Birds of Prey. So the future of the pirate franchise is more uncertain than ever. The last reason was the court case between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, in which Depp stated that he had no ambitions to return to the series.

At the same time, Bruckheimer explained to ComicBook.com in the summer that a script for “Pirates of the Caribbean 6” is currently being worked on: “I’m very excited, it’s going to be great. We’re working on a script. One of the original authors, Ted Elliot, is helping to write it. He knows the characters very well.”

As things stand at the moment, the film would have to do without Johnny Depp’s quirky Captain Jack Sparrow, although one Disney insider has strong belief in the actor’s return. Now that Margot-Robbie’s spin-off is also likely to be axed, fans will likely have to wait a few more years for the franchise to return.
