Breinholt moves to the competitor – TV 2 is ‘regrettable’

For four years, the intoxicating Christmas calendar with former night -team host Anders Breinholt, musician Søren Rasted and beer expert Carsten Berthelsen has been a fixture on TV 2 PLAY and TV 2 ZULU.

But it’s over.

On Monday, it emerged that the well-known format is moving platform – and moving to the competitor Viaplay.

“I am insanely happy that the Christmas calendar continues on Viaplay, so that again this year we can be allowed to taste all the delicious beers that Carsten finds us,” Anders Breinholt said in a press release.

The fact that the intoxicating Christmas calendar with the three well-known faces is moving to Viaplay, however, angers the former rights holders at TV 2.

“We are very sorry about that,” writes TV2’s head of content, Dorthe Thirstrup, in an email to BT and elaborates:

“We have been in dialogue about yet another Christmas calendar according to the known recipe, but we failed to land an agreement with the known format.”

BT has subsequently asked whether the agreement has gone down the drain due to disagreements about finances, but TV 2 has not returned with an answer to this.

In the Christmas calendar, Anders Breinholt, Søren Rasted and Carsten Berthelsen taste their way through 24 different beers – which have been carefully selected by the seasoned beer expert. As usual, the filming also took place over one day. This year, the Christmas calendar gets a little twist with a visit from Michelin chef Dak Wichangoen.

“We love Christmas at Viaplay, and with the format ‘Breinholt’s Christmas calendar’ in the Christmas stocking, we are looking forward to being able to present our users with a fun and popular adult Christmas calendar from 1 December,” says Morten Lollike, Executive Producer at Viaplay Group.

Even if TV 2 loses an otherwise beloved format from their own platform, the medium can nevertheless be happy on behalf of the competitor that the format can be spread widely.

“We are happy that the Christmas calendar lives on,” says Dorthe Thirstrup.

‘Breinholt’s Christmas calendar’ premieres on Viaplay on 1 December.
