Brad Pitt: Brad Pitt talks about rare condition prosopagnosia

Brad Pitt is ashamed because he can’t remember other people’s faces. How high his suffering is becomes clear in a recent interview.

Hollywood star Brad Pitt, 58, says he suffers from prosopagnosia, a rare condition in which sufferers are unable to recognize other people’s faces. In the August issue of the men’s magazine “GQ”, the actor gave a deep look into his inner life, revealing that he “feels very alone” in his life – and comes back to his problem, which he shares with Princess Victoria, 44 .

Brad Pitt feels ashamed when he doesn’t recognize others

Brad Pitt already made waves with his “GQ” cover interview in 2017, after the divorce from Angelina Jolie, 47, which she filed in 2016, stated that she had drunk too much. “It became a problem,” said Pitt. “The separation from Angelina” would have felt like “death” for him at the time. He not only gave up alcohol. As he revealed in the current interview with the US men’s magazine, he also stopped smoking during the pandemic.

In addition, the “Once Upon a Time in Hollywood” star comes back to his problem, which he first spoke to “Esquire” magazine in 2013. Brad Pitt suffers from prosopagnosia, which means he cannot recognize and remember faces. That would take the fun out of going out, as he revealed at the time. The result: Pitt “rather stay at home”.

But there is another factor that significantly limits it. “So many people hate me because they think I don’t respect them,” says the actor. Others got the wrong impression of him, thinking he was a distant and unapproachable superstar. In truth, however, he wants to remember the people he meets, as “GQ” reports. And I’m ashamed that he can’t.

“I want to meet someone who also suffers from it”

Brad Pitt never received an official diagnosis. So far he hasn’t met anyone who shares the problem he’s suffering from. “Nobody believes me!” He clarifies to “GQ”, and says: “I want to meet someone who also suffers from it.”

According to the neuropsychological department of the Ruhr University Bochum, so-called face blindness “occurs very rarely”. Those affected are “not able to see the faces [ihrer] to identify own family members, nor [können sie ihr] Recognizing your own face in the mirror.” It is not known whether this also applies to Brad Pitt.

Princess Victoria is Pitt’s fellow sufferer

Princess Victoria is like the Hollywood star. “It’s very difficult for me to remember names and faces, which is a big disadvantage in my role,” she told Föräldrakraft magazine in 2008. It is also not known whether the heir to the Swedish throne has suffered from face blindness since birth or whether it was caused by a brain injury.

Either way, it becomes clear that those affected can be exposed to a high level of suffering. There is currently no treatment option that can be used to eliminate prosopagnosia.
