Boss-sized Racing Genk against Anderlecht, the match briefly interrupted after smoke bombs

Racing Genk chained a tenth (!) consecutive victory in the league after their easy victory against Anderlecht (0-2, Onuachu, Arteaga). Attractive, superior in all areas of play, the Limburgers hurt the people of Brussels very badly on the flanks, in particular thanks to Paintsil and Arteaga. Sporting had no illusions at any time in this meeting and could not exploit their numerical superiority in the last quarter of an hour. Genk, who are now 10 (!) points ahead of Union, are emerging as the big favorites in this championship.

From the first minutes of play, Racing Genk took Anderlecht by the throat, exploiting the flanks. Munoz, Arteaga, Paintstil and Trésor made the people of Brussels see all the colors, completely overwhelmed by the speed of execution of the Limburgers. “We had been warned but obviously not enough”, let go Hendrik Van Crombrugge laconically at half-time of the meeting. Back in top form, Onuachu put his team on the road to success following an excellent serve from Munoz (0-1). At the origin of the phase, a brilliant opening by El Khannouss which destabilized the entire Anderlecht rearguard. For their part, the Mauves had all the trouble in the world to be dangerous. At the start of the second half, Arteaga already gave the coup de grace by doubling the bet on an assist from Paintsil, once again well served by the untenable El Khannouss (0-2). Reduced to ten with fifteen minutes to go following Arteaga’s dismissal, Vranken’s men still managed to control the match without difficulty.

The match briefly stopped

Just before half-time, several Anderlecht supporters disrupted the match by throwing smoke bombs on the lawn. Bram Van Driessche was forced to briefly interrupt the debates until the smoke cleared. Fortunately, the incidents were not further. At the break, Jan Vertonghen went to the Anderlecht kop to chat with the fans and to try to calm things down. After the meeting, the RSCA reacted to the excesses by press release. “The actions of a limited number of fans during the game are unacceptable. Clear agreements had been made in consultation with the club and the police. They were not respected. The club will join the consultation of the Pro League on Monday in order to banish such scenes from football stadiums as soon as possible and will also take measures. This kind of action has no place in a stadium”.

If it was not yet clear, it is now: Racing Genk is the big favorite in this championship. The Limburgers are now ten points ahead of Union, who grabbed second place thanks to their victory at Standard (2-3). Offering total football, with shimmering play and very attacking backs, the team coached by Wouter Vrancken has demonstrated why it sits at the top of the championship. Currently, Genk is by far the best team in Belgium. His only defeat of the season already dates back to the first day of the championship, at Club Brugge. Does the international break come at a bad time? Maybe. The season is still long, but for the moment, it is really hard to see who will be able to challenge the Limburg domination.
