BJP MP surrounded his party by mentioning the Kandahar case, said – the most shameful surrender in modern history

Vajpayee was the PM at the time of Kandahar incident. His government’s foreign minister Jaswant Singh himself had taken three terrorists with him to Kandahar. The released terrorists included Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar, Ahmed Zargar and Sheikh Ahmed Umar Saeed.

BJP MP Subramanian Swamy’s attacks on his own party are not stopping. For the time being, he surrounded his party by referring to the Kandahar case. He said that this incident was the most shameful surrender in the modern history of India. It is clear from Swamy’s words that he is blaming the then government for the incident. Atal Bihari Vajpayee was the PM at that time.

Swamy has been very vocal in the matter of PM Modi. In Afghanistan, he has even said that India will have to face serious challenges in the coming times. He even advised PM Modi to leave his chair and make way for another leader so that he can get strong leadership to face this crisis. Swamy has earlier surrounded the Modi government on many other issues including oil prices. He had launched a scathing attack on the government over China’s encroachment in Ladakh.

The Kandahar hijack incident took place on 24 December 1999. Indian Airlines flight IC 814 departed for New Delhi from Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu, with a total of 180 passengers and crew on board. As the plane entered Indian airspace, gun-toting terrorists hijacked the plane. The hijackers took the plane to Kabul via many places including Pakistan, but there was no facility to land the plane at night, due to which the hijackers took the plane to Dubai.

The then NDA government had to release three terrorists by taking them to Kandahar to ensure the safety of the passengers. On December 31, all 155 kidnapped hostages at Kandahar Airport in southern Afghanistan were released following an agreement between the government and the hijackers. The passengers were released but the manner in which the government kneeled before them had brought India’s world to disrepute.

Vajpayee was the PM at the time of Kandahar incident. His government’s foreign minister Jaswant Singh himself had taken three terrorists with him to Kandahar. The released extremists included Jaish-e-Mohammed chief Maulana Masood Azhar, Ahmed Zargar and Sheikh Ahmed Umar Saeed. The opposition is attacking BJP till date regarding this incident. This has been seen as a huge failure of the then government.
