Big evening for the twenty years of the Agglo de Nîmes

The twenty years of Nîmes Métropole were celebrated this Thursday evening in Paloma in the presence of more than a thousand guests. President Franck Proust was surrounded by the mayors of the 39 municipalities.

More than a thousand people to blow out the 20 candles of Nïmes Métropole. Elected officials, former mayors, economic actors and community partners had responded to the invitation of President Franck Proust. An evening that started with the presentation of trophies to the 14 founding mayors or their successors. 14 pioneers, including of course Jean-Paul Fournier, the mayor of Nîmes, whose speech, imbued with sincerity, revealed his “emotion” in memory of those moments when, barely elected, in March 2001, the mayors agreed to unite their destinies.

“Instill Oxygen”

Franck Proust, president since 2020 but elected community member since 2002, left him, in a river speech, paying homage to the “beautiful house” which has a “extraordinary active”. Citing the Nemausa swimming pool, the economic activity zones, the Paloma room, the transport network, etc., President Proust also praised the staff to whom he spoke that very morning to inform them of his desire “to instill more oxygen, more flexibility, more muscle” to the community.

Sébastien Martin, president of Intermunicipalities of France, also in a lengthy speech, underlined that intermunicipality is not synonymous with uniformity and that agglomerations are not at the service of the municipalities, but of the inhabitants.

The forgotten Lachaud mandate

Nicolas Sarkozy meanwhile, who had inaugurated the Coliseum in 2003, had recorded a video. A camera face of the unshaven but extremely natural ex-president to express his dream of returning to Nîmes, where he would have held his best meetings: “Consider me one of your own!”

Nicolas Sarkozy, facing the camera, says his friendship to the people of Nîmes.

In the twenty-year souvenir album, the pages of the 2014-2020 period, that of the Lachaud presidency, invited and present in the room, seemed to have simply disappeared from history.
