Akshay Kumar, Vaani Kapoor, Lara Dutta and Huma Qureshi starrer ‘Bell Bottom’ received appreciation from the critics as well as the audience, but in terms of earnings, the film became a victim of ‘transition’. Cinemas have not opened in Maharashtra yet. Whereas in many other states of the country including Delhi, UP and MP, the film was released with 50 percent seating capacity. It is a bold move to release the film in theaters at such a time. But alas, the audience is still scared to go to the theatres. ‘Bell Bottom’ has made a business of just Rs 25.75 crore in its two weeks till Thursday. ‘Bell Bottom’ earned Rs 60 lakh on Wednesday. The earning on Thursday stood at Rs 50 lakh.
‘Chehre’ earned only 2.8 crores in the first week
On the other hand, even the thrillers of Amitabh Bachchan, Emraan Hashmi, Rhea Chakraborty and Annu Kapoor could not pull the audience to the theatres. The film did a business of just Rs 45 lakh on the opening day of August 27. It was expected that the film would touch the crore mark in the weekend. But this could not happen. While the film earned Rs 60 lakh on Saturday in its first weekend, it earned only Rs 85 lakh on Sunday. ‘Chehre’ has earned just Rs 2.80 crore in its first seven days of journey till Thursday. ‘Chehre’ earned Rs 20 lakh on Wednesday, while the earnings dropped to Rs 15 lakh on Thursday.
‘Roohi’ beats ‘Bell Bottom’ to become number-1
However, in the juggernaut of figures, ‘Bell Bottom’ has beaten the lifetime earnings of the first film ‘Roohi’ released in theaters this year. Janhvi Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao’s ‘Roohi’ also released in a similar time period. Then the film did a business of Rs 23.25 crore.
Hollywood films earning in crores
On the other hand, Marvel Studios’ ‘Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’, which released on Friday, did a business of Rs 3.25 crore on the first day itself. Not only are people flocking to theaters to see this new superhero, but it has also proved to be the biggest release in the country since the theaters opened in July. While the release of ‘Fast and Furious 9’ on the same day has also earned in crores. However, it lagged behind ‘Shang Chi’ a bit. ‘Fast and Furious 9’ has earned Rs 2 crore on Thursday, while the film has earned Rs 1.5 crore on Friday.
