A silent hour, without music, for peaceful shopping: this is what the Beaugrenelle shopping center now offers, every Tuesday, from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m.
More music for a relaxed and calm atmosphere, a less stressful environment and more zen customers: this is what the Parisian shopping center offers Beaugrenelle. Since January 4, every tuesday for an hour, the center turns off its music in the common areas and allows their customers to shop in peace.
This is the silent hour: of 3 to 4 p.m., the sounds are reduced “ in support of people with misophonie and D’autism », indicates the shopping center on its site. Misophonia is an aversion to noise, a disorder that makes very noisy places difficult for people who have it.
To complete this change, the Beaugrenelle center also planned to reduce the brightness of the mall and not to use the cleaning devices during the silent hour, specifies the site LSA green.
« This new commitment is part of the CSR policy of Beaugrenelle and more broadly of Apsys. Beaugrenelle’s initiative is a big step forward for people with autism and their families and will allow them to improve their shopping trip in more suitable conditions and thus facilitate their daily life. This approach, shared by all of our brands, will benefit other customers, whether or not they have misophonia. », assure Stéphane Briosne, director of Beaugrenelle Paris.
The silent hour is more and more adopted in large retailers such as Carrefour, which also offers one hour without music, Mondays from 2 to 3 p.m. This process should multiply in the coming months, in all stores of more than 1000 m² : deputy Nadia Essayan tabled a Law proposition in this sense to the National Assembly, a proposal which was adopted.
