Based on true crime, scary thriller debuts on Netflix

If you enjoy thriller movies, an interesting suggestion has just arrived on Netflix’s Brazilian catalog. It’s The Curse of Sharon Tate, a chilling thriller that mixes fictional elements with the true story of one of the most famous crimes in Hollywood history – all with a former Disney star in the lead role.

Originally released in 2019, The Curse of Sharon Tate (original title The Haunting of Sharon Tate) is a horror thriller film written and directed by Daniel Farrands of Amityville: Awakening and Evoking Spirits.

In its original debut, the film failed to win over the specialized critics, securing only 19% approval on Rotten Tomatoes. On the other hand, The Curse of Sharon Tate was nominated for 4 categories at the Hollywood Reel Independent Film Festival.

The Curse of Sharon Tate is inspired by a true story

Although it adopts fictional elements – and to some extent, supernatural – The Curse of Sharon Tate is based on one of the most famous crimes in history: the murders. Tate-LaBiancacommitted by the sect of Charles Manson.

“Rising star Sharon Tate is plagued by visions of her own death as members of Charles Manson’s cult prepare to strike,” states the official synopsis for The Curse of Sharon Tate.

The film begins with actress Sharon Tate, pregnant with director Roman Polanski, awaiting her husband’s return after a season in Europe.

At 26, and seen as one of Hollywood’s most promising stars, Sharon Tate was living the golden dream. However, her routine becomes haunted by terrible dreams and strange premonitions.

The story culminates on the night of August 8, 1969, when Sharon Tate – accompanied by 4 friends – lives a tragic and fatal encounter with Charles Manson’s “family”.

Sounds familiar? The same story (with important changes) is told in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood by Quentin Tarantino.

The Curse of Sharon Tate has Hilary Duff and Mean Girls actor

The cast of The Curse of Sharon Tate is led by Hilary Duff as the titular protagonist.

In addition to an award-winning music career, Hilary Duff is known as Disney Channel’s Lizzie McGuire.

Jonathan Bennett, famous for playing Aaron Samuels in Mean Girls, plays Jay Sebring, a hairdresser and friend of Sharon Tate.

Lydia Hearst (Titanic 666) is Abigail ‘Gibby’ Folger, a millionaire heiress who also became one of the victims of the Manson Family.

And speaking of the Manson Family, Charlie’s followers – Tex Watson, Patricia Krenwinkel and Susan Atkins – are played by Tyler Johnson (Afterburn), Fivel Stewart (Atypical) and Bella Popa (Mafia). Charles Manson is played by Ben Mellish (Elephants).

The Curse of Sharon Tate’s cast is completed by Pawel Szajda (For All Mankind) and Ryan Cargill (The Assistant).
