Is Amor & Gelato based on a true story?

No, Amor & Gelato is not based on a true story.

However, the film’s screenplay is based on a bestselling book of the same name, written by Jenna Evans Welch. In Brazil, the work is published by Editora Intrinseca.

In an interview with Publisher’s Weekly, Welch spoke about her inspirations for the book: “I attended an international school in Florence and one of my friends grew up in an American cemetery where her father was the caretaker. My friend used to run between the headstones every morning.”

Welch also says that she used to have two or three scoops of gelato a day during her first summer in Tuscany. This wonder is the work of Italian chef Francesco Procopio Dei Coltelli, who introduced gelato to his Café Procope in Paris back in the 1600s.

She thought the stories from when she was 17 could form the basis of a good book. Considering the success of Amor & Gelato in bookstores and on Netflix, she was right!
