“The summer before college, scholar Auden meets the mysterious Eli, who teaches her how to lead a lighter, carefree life.”

Below we explain everything Netflix fans need to know about the inspirations of On the Way to Summer; check out.

Is Summer’s Way based on a true story?

Summer’s Way is not based on a true story. In fact, the film is inspired by a book of the same name, written by Sarah Dessen.

However, events in the author’s life influenced the production of Auden and Eli’s story.

Eli’s interest in bicycles, for example, was inspired by Jay, Sarah Dessen’s real-life husband.

While the author was writing the original work, her husband used the backyard of the house to practice thrilling bicycle jumps.

Other experiences by Sarah Dessen also inspired the characterization of the protagonist Auden.

“Riding a bicycle is an important part of anyone’s childhood. It is a kind of ‘first freedom’. So I really liked the idea of this girl, who was always cautious and serious, being willing to make a fool of herself and learn.”

In another press release, the author also revealed how she looks like Auden, Emma Pasarow’s character in the romantic drama.

“I’m a lot like Auden in a lot of different ways. I’m really a perfectionist. I like to do things perfectly. I get very frustrated when I’m not good at something.”

In Summer’s Way, Auden’s stepmother – played by Kate Bosworth – suffers from her newborn son’s constant crying. In real life, Sarah Dessen had a similar experience after giving birth to her first baby.

One of the most important themes of Summer’s Way is the acceptance of flaws and flaws, which also reflects Sarah Dessen’s trajectory in real life.

“I’ve met a lot of girls like that, who are pressured to be good. My intention was to show the ‘appeal of failure’ and how it can shape people’s lives,” explained Dessen.

A Caminho do Verão is now available in the Brazilian Netflix catalog.
