Kiernan Shipka, Randall Park, Olivia Holt and Julie Bowen stars in the upcoming horror comedy Totally Killer from the experts at Blumhouse.
In 1985, Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) traveled back to 1955 using a time machine owned by Dr, Emmett L. Brown (Christopher Lloyd). There he met his father George McFly (Crispin Glover), a loser before the Lord. This loser should be his father one day? In 1955 he wasn’t even able to arrange a date with Lorraine Baines (Lea Thompson), Marty’s future mother. Clearly, Marty had to help his father – and try not to seduce his own mother. Yes, that’s the plot of Back to the Future, one of the greatest cult films of all time.
And now imagine if Marty McFly hadn’t walked into his mother’s arms but into a serial killer’s knife. At least that’s the underlying idea for the upcoming horror comedy “Totally Killer” from the horror maestros of Blumhouse Productions (via The Hollywood Reporters), who with works like “Insidious”, “The Purge” and “Sinister – If you see him, you’re already lost” could provide for proper horror.
So the film is definitely in good hands, that’s for sure. “Totally Killer” is produced for Amazon Studios, so it is made available exclusively via the streaming service Amazon Prime Video. Eight films have already emerged from this cooperation within the “Welcome to Blumhouse” series.
The film follows the return of the Sweet Sixteen Killer, who brutally butchered a group of teenage girls in the 1980s. Pam (Julie Bowen) is one of the survivors. The return of the serial killer drives her insane. Her daughter Jamie (Kiernan Shipka) wants to do something about it. Together with her friend Amelia, she travels back to 1987 and forms an alliance with the young version of her mother (Olivia Holt). The mission: put an end to the terror once and for all.
Another crazy horror comedy: You can stream “Happy Deathday” in 4K via Amazon
And for Totally Killer, the creators have also brought a real killer cast on board with Kiernan Shipka (“Chilling Adventures of Sabrina”), Randall Park (“WandaVision”), Julie Bowen (“Kill the Boss”) and Olivia Holt (“Marvel’s Cloak & Dagger”). It will be directed by Nahnatchka Khan (“Always Be Ma Maybe”) and written by Jen D’Angelo.
Director Khan is currently filming with the stars and crew in Vancouver, Canada and is looking forward to the end product:
“The idea of a time travel horror comedy is, to be honest, something I never would have thought of in my life. When the amazing creatives at Blumhouse and Amazon approached me and suggested ‘Totally Killer’, it was so unique and exciting that I just had to be there. And then there’s this incredible cast? Everyone get ready.”
With horror films, it usually doesn’t take too long before they find their way to the cinema or a streaming service. So it’s quite possible that “Totally Killer” could be made available via Amazon at the end of the year/beginning of next year. You can see which horror films await you in 2022 in our video.
How about Happy Deathday 3?
Blumhouse was also responsible for another horror comedy series that took advantage of the genius idea of a cult film: The Happy Deathday films used the time warp idea from Groundhog Day starring Bill Murray. Most recently, Tree Gelbman (Jessica Rothe) had to fend off Babyface in 2019’s Happy Deathday 2U.
How about Happy Deathday 3? When asked by a fan on Twitter, Jason Blum of Blumhouse recently let it be known that something is happening in this regard:
So until Blumhouse’s supplies arrive, you can try to guess how you’d die in a horror movie:
