With „Spider-Man: No Way Home“ experienced Tom Holland in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) soon his third solo adventure as a friendly spider from the neighborhood. The anticipation is currently being clouded a little by Holland itself. After all, he recently announced his end as Spider-Man in a few years.

You can easily stream Spider-Man’s last MCU adventure “Far From Home” on Amazon Prime Video

Until then, he apparently has perhaps the most important Marvel part, as “Avengers: Endgame” director Joe Russo reveals to GQ:

“Tom takes on the role that Robert Downey does [Jr.] had filled out for Marvel by being the most popular character and in many ways the soul of the Marvel Universe is.”

According to a study by Game from 2021, Spider-Man is actually the most popular superhero character, including DC. In order for Tom Holland to actually follow in the footsteps of Robert Downey Jr. and become the soul of the Marvel universe, his role in it would have to change a little. After all, Tony Stark, aka Iron Man, was one of the leaders of the Avengers and accordingly steered the fortunes of a number of adventures. Peter Parker certainly does not have this status at the moment. Especially since Robert Downey Jr. also caused a sensation behind the scenes, as our Marvel outtakes video proves:

So Spider-Man could become even more important than Iron Man

However, it could soon fulfill a function that even surpasses Iron Man’s part. Because it was perhaps no coincidence that Joe Russo referred to him as the soul of the Marvel Universe rather than the soul of the MCU. After all, it is currently commonly assumed that “Spider-Man: No Way Home” not only points the way into the MCU multiverse, but even creates a bridge to Sony’s Spider-Man Universe (SSU), where Venom (Tom Hardy) and Co. are at home.

It remains to be seen whether Tom Holland will say goodbye to the MCU completely and be seen exclusively in the SSU in the future. But there is hope that Spider-Man is a kind of link between the two film worlds. Thus, he would truly have an important role that could make him the center or even the soul of the united Marvel universe.

So we can be curious to see to what extent Tom Holland will follow in the footsteps of Robert Downey Jr. Iron Man, on the other hand, gets a spiritual heir one way or another: Riri Williams alias Ironheart (Dominique Thorne), who celebrates her MCU debut in “Black Panther 2: Wakanda Forever” and with “Ironheart” will also receive its own series on Disney +. But we still have to wait a little longer, before that “Spider-Man: No Way Home” ends the MCU cinema year 2021 from December 15, 2021 in German cinemas.
