‘Avatar: Path of Water’ debuts at US box office

With less than a month to go until the long-awaited release of the sequel ‘Avatar: The Way of Water‘, analysts indicate that the feature should have a great debut in North American theaters.

According to projections, the James Cameron should collect around $150-175 million on its first weekend in the US. There are analysts who even predict a debut to surpass the $200 million in the country.

For comparison terms, a premiere of $150 million would be 95% above the release of the original film, which debuted with $77 million in the US in 2009.

The website deadline says ‘Avatar 2‘ should benefit from the lack of competition – after the Warner Bros. have postponed’Shazam 2‘ to avoid clashing with the Na’vi – and the busy end of year period – always very profitable for the film industry.

In addition, the production secured a simultaneous release in China, where the first film grossed impressive $260 million (driven by 3D and IMAX).
