At least 20 bodies have been transferred to Jabalia hospital, said Salah Abu Leila, the director of the medical facility. There are also many injured, it still sounds. Another source mentions at least six underage victims. The cause of the fire is not yet clear.

The Islamist movement Hamas, which controls the Gaza Strip, said the fire broke out in a three-story building. The fire is under control, Hamas said.

President Mahmoud Abbas has declared a day of national mourning. The Palestinian Authority has also asked Israel to open the border crossing in Erez. This should allow the wounded to be treated outside the blockaded Gaza Strip.
