Ashley Judd reveals she found her mother, Naomi Judd, dead: "She used a gun"

Ashley Judd revealed details of mother’s death, Naomi Juddfor the first time, and said that the singer committed suicide, during an interview with Good Morning Americathis Thursday (12/05).

Ashley said her mother used a gun: “My mother used a firearm. So this is information that we are very uncomfortable sharing,” said the actress, who also reported finding her mother dead at home.

“It’s been a crazy day. I visit my mom and I pop in every day when I’m home in Tennessee, so I was at home and my mom said to me, ‘Will you stay with me?’ And I said, ‘Of course I will.’ I went upstairs to let her know her friend was there, and I found her. I feel sadness and trauma from the discovery.”

The 54-year-old artist said her family made her responsible for sharing information about the country singer’s death, clarifying her mental health: “When we’re talking about mental illness it’s very important to be clear and distinguish between the loved one and the illness. My mother knew that she was seen and heard in her distress, and she was taken home.” Judd also said that Naomi underscored the “catastrophe level of what was happening to her” by taking her own life at age 76.

“The barrier between the consideration with which (her colleagues) held her could not penetrate her heart, and the lie that the disease told her was so convincing.” Wynnona Judd’s sister, the two announced their mother’s death on April 30, claiming she had suffered from “mental illness”.

Naomi even revealed in 2016 that she’s been battling anxiety and depression since she and Wynnona took a break from touring in 2011. At the time, the singer reported: “Fans see me in rhinestones, you know, with glitter on my hair, that’s really who I am. But then I would come home and I wouldn’t leave the house for three weeks, and I wouldn’t take off my pajamas and I wouldn’t practice normal hygiene. It was really bad.”
