As if Corona had never existed: “Doctor Strange 2” has one of the best cinema starts of all time

“Doctor Strange 2” has finally started in the cinemas and was able to lay down one of the best opening weekends ever.

“Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness” is the first film from the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) to open this year. Fans can look forward to Thor: Love and Thunder and Black Panther: Wakanda Forever. The second adventure of Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), which leads deeper into the multiverse, is already raising the bar for 2022 because, like the last Marvel film “Spider-Man: No Way Home”, it is a complete success for Disney.

After “No Way Home” grossed almost 1.9 billion US dollars worldwide and showed that people appreciate the cinema despite the corona pandemic, “Doctor Strange 2” also attracts numerous visitors* to the cinemas. As deadline reports, the Marvel film has since launched on May 4, 2022 $450 million worldwide recorded. This is the second-biggest launch since the coronavirus pandemic began and the MCU’s fourth-best ever. Before that are only Avengers: Endgame, Avengers: Infinity War, and No Way Home. You can find out how it could continue after “Doctor Strange 2” in the video:

This is how “Doctor Stange in the Multiverse of Madness” arrived in Germany

In Germany, too, “Doctor Stange in the Multiverse of Madness” got off to an extremely good start. According to Spotlight: Movie the Marvel film attracted 800,000 viewers to the cinemas and 8.7 million euros recorded. This means that twice as many cinema tickets were sold for the sequel as for the first “Doctor Strange” film, which only had 400,000 admissions after the first weekend.

“Doctor Strange 2” thus has the most successful film start of the year so far in this country, if you go by sales. Compared to the frontrunners since the beginning of the pandemic, the Marvel film is the 3rd most successful launch. Only “Spider-Man: No Way Home” and “No Time To Die” delivered an even better theatrical release. These numbers make it clear that film fans still appreciate the cinema experience even in times of diverse streaming offers. At the same time, well-known brands and especially the MCU attract people to the cinemas. It remains to be seen how much Thor: Love and Thunder, which launches on July 6, 2022, will continue the trend.
