antonov an-26: Russia Japan Tension, Japanese Defense Ministry alleges Russian plane violates its airspace

After the Chinese submarine, now Russia’s Antonol An-26 aircraft has infiltrated Japanese airspace. After which the fighter planes of the Japanese Air Force, which came into action, drove this Russian aircraft out. The Russian plane allegedly violated Japan’s airspace twice on Sunday near the island of Hokkaido. Earlier on Friday, a Chinese submarine was caught patrolling near Japanese waters.

Summoned the Russian ambassador and protested
According to the Kyodo news agency, the Japanese Foreign Ministry summoned the Russian ambassador and expressed strong objection. A protest letter has also been handed over to Russia on Japan’s side regarding this matter. It is being claimed that this Russian plane was civil and not military. However, Japan has not given any information about this.

What is the dispute between Russia and Japan
Japan claims its territorial rights over the Kuril Islands. Japan calls these islands the Northern Territory. They were captured by the Soviet Union in the last days of World War II and since then there has been controversy about them. Decades of diplomatic efforts to negotiate a deal have so far yielded no clear results. Former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe also made a lot of efforts to end this dispute with Russia.

Russian Navy patrols near Kuril Islands
The Eastern Fleet of the Russian Navy continues to patrol to protect the Kuril Islands. Russia’s Eastern Fleet is responsible for security in the Pacific Ocean region. This fleet includes several lethal warships and submarines. The Russian Navy also conducts military exercises and missile testing near these disputed islands.

Controversy also increased over the visit of Russian PM to these islands
In July this year, when Russian Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin visited the Kuril Islands in the Pacific Ocean, Japan had raised strong objections. Japan’s Permanent Deputy Foreign Minister Takeo Mori summoned the Russian ambassador to Tokyo, Mikhail Galujin, to register a protest. During this, while registering a strong protest in front of Russia, he urged to end this high-profile visit immediately.
