A long-running petition calling for Amber Heard to be kicked out of Aquaman 2 is now experiencing a resurgence over her trial with ex-husband Johnny Depp.
The War of the Roses between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp already had an impact on their Hollywood careers in 2020. Depp gave up his role as Gellert Grindelwald in “Fantastic Beasts 3: Secrets of Dumbledore” at the request of Warner Bros Mads Mikkelsen took over. You can currently see the result in German cinemas.
Even then, his fans were not surprising against Depp’s elimination in the dream factory. For example, a petition that Johnny Depp at least wants to save his role as Captain Jack Sparrow enjoyed great popularity. But that was nothing against a petition that launched a counterattack and should cost Amber Heard her most lucrative job at the moment. We are talking about her part as Mera in “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom”, Warner Bros. is also responsible as the studio for the superhero film. In the course of the proceedings, this petition, which already had more than 1.6 million signatures by the end of 2020, received renewed attention. Meanwhile, the call has been made to include Amber Heard in the DC sequel Jason Momoa to swipe up change.org at over 3.9 million signatures.
How promising is the “Aquaman 2” claim?
The process between Johnny Depp and Amber Heard, in which the two have accused each other of violence, is currently still in full swing. Accordingly, it is not possible to foresee which verdict will be passed in the end. It probably also depends on the extent to which Heard and Depp have further career opportunities in Hollywood.
However, the big demand that Amber Heard from “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” flies should no longer be met one way or the other. According to Jason Momoa, filming on the film wrapped earlier this year. Accordingly, a new Mera actress would have to shoot all relevant scenes again, which would involve enormous effort and corresponding costs. Warner Bros. is unlikely to take this step even if Amber Heard loses the court verdict. For example, Armie Hammer was not cut from “Death on the Nile” despite serious allegations, but he was understandably not part of the PR tour. A counter-example is Kevin Spacey’s participation in “All the Money in the World”, who was subsequently replaced by Christopher Plummer after the revelations about him. Still, it seems more realistic that Amber Heard will no longer appear as Mera in future DC movies if that happens. Whether the character will then be completely deleted or embodied by another actress would also have to be clarified. However, all of this is still pie in the sky and speculation.
