Alexis Sánchez, the darling of Sampaoli will ruin OM

Jorge Sampaoli wants to poach Alexis Sánchez from Inter Milan. But the Chilean’s salary is a big obstacle for OM’s finances.

It’s a little music that has regularly come back to the ears of Olympique de Marseille supporters for a few transfer windows: Alexis Sánchez is on the club’s shelves. It is therefore not surprising to see the Chilean’s name reappear as the summer market approaches, which will be very turbulent at OM. However, if Jorge Sampaoli dreams of Alexis Sánchez, the economic reality should quickly bring him back to earth.

Huge salary for Alexis Sánchez at Inter

According to the Chilean channel TNT Sports, Olympique de Marseille has returned to the charge in recent days for the transfer of Alexis Sánchez. Of course, Jorge Sampaoli is the instigator of these negotiations, but Pablo Longoria would not have said no. The opportunity to reform the duo that worked wonders at the 2015 Copa America is great for OM, but Sánchez’s salary is a problem.

Alexis Sánchez earns 6.5 million euros net annually. And if buying out the last year of the player’s contract seems to be on the ropes of OM, this remuneration represents a big brake in the discussions. By way of comparison, the highest salary currently in Marseille is that of Cédric Bakambu, which is close to 5 million gross annual.

So far, Alexis Sánchez has been approached by Galatasaray who can meet the Chilean’s financial demands, without offering him the possibility of playing in the Champions League next season. In addition to the strong relationship between Sampaoli and the former Barça player, OM’s sports project could therefore make a difference in this case.
