The Oscars should actually take place without a host in the future, but now ABC has changed its mind and there will be a classic moderation again.
At the beginning of 2020 the Oscars took place under normal circumstances and at that time “Parasite” won the golden statue, among other things, in the category of best film. Shortly afterwards, the corona pandemic broke out worldwide, with far-reaching consequences for society as a whole. The entertainment industry is still struggling with the effects, as current theatrical releases are partially postponed due to the currently emerging Omikron variant. Although the Oscars took place regularly in 2021, the selection of films was smaller due to the postponements.
The Oscars in 2022 will definitely take place and this time the range of films is significantly larger. The event is scheduled to be broadcast on ABC television on March 27, 2022. However, there is exciting news: An old tradition is returning after a break of only four years, because there will be a moderator again. Craig Erwich, ABC & and Hulu President confirmed this news at a virtual press conference (via The Hollywood Reporter). Glenn Weiss, who has already directed the award ceremony six times, will again take care of the event and also make the choice for the host. The whole thing is produced by Will Packer (“Night School”).
The Academy Award, also known as the Oscar, is the highest film award in the entertainment industry. You can find out exactly how the winners for the best film are selected in our video:
Will “Spider-Man” star Tom Holland host the Oscars in 2022?
Of course, the most exciting question is still which films and filmmakers will be nominated for this year and who can go home with a prize in the end. However, Oscar fans can again puzzle this year who will moderate the award ceremony in 2022. After Hollywood star Kevin Hart did not host the Oscar 2018 due to homophobic tweets, Jimmy Kimmel took on the role of host again, who led the evening in 2017. After that, however, it was decided to hold an event without moderation.
Maybe Hart could get another chance through the producer Will Packer, if he is still interested in an appearance. Both know each other from joint film productions. Otherwise, Tiffany Haddish (“The Card Counter”) could also come into question, who also already worked with Packer and would therefore have a good chance of finding the host role. While there are many potential candidates, “Spider-Man: No Way Home” star Tom Holland has also expressed an interest in taking on the moderation job. Perhaps the Marvel star will act more as a laudator in the end.
Who will ultimately be the host for the Oscars in 2022 remains open for the time being, but at least the nominees should be announced on February 8, 2022.
