Abroad: Eriksen helps Manchester United into the winter break with a good feeling

As the World Cup approaches, football will be played for the last time in a competition this weekend. This will mean that many former Ajax players will come into action. Follow their performance here and join the conversation!

Sunday 13 November

The Manchester United of Eric ten Hag, Lisandro Martinez, Christian Eriksen, Donny van de Beek and Anthony took on Fulham in the Premier League, where Kenny Tetea is under contract. Antony was absent due to an injury, Van de Beek remained on the bench and Martínez and Eriksen were in the starting line-up. At Fulham, Tete was absent due to getting five yellow cards. Eriksen would play a big role during that game, which seemed to end in 1-1 for a long time. Eriksen was accurate within fifteen minutes, but had to allow a goal after an hour. In stoppage time, Manchester United still won, thanks to an assist from Eriksen. Joel Veltman took on Aston Villa at home with Brighton & Hove Albion. He started on the bench, but was allowed to fill in after an hour. He couldn’t prevent his team from going down 1-2.

Sheraldo Becker and Danielho Dukhi went to visit SC Freiburg with Union Berlin. The teams were equal in points beforehand and could therefore do good business in a mutual duel. It was a painful evening for Ajax’s opponent in the Europa League. Both former Ajax players were in the starting line-up, but the match was lost 1-4 without a chance.

Andre Onana took on Atalanta with Internazionale. The basic keeper had to allow two goals, but saw his team score three goals: 2-3. Torino faced AS Roma for an away match. The squad of Perr Schuurs drew 1-1 against Jose Mourinho’s side, but the central defender was absent due to a shoulder injury. Arek Milik played with Juventus against Lazio and that also went positively. The Pole was in the starting line-up, played the entire game and scored during a 3-0 win.

Noah Lang played with Club Brugge against the Royal Antwerp FC of Toby Alderweireld, Viktor Fischer and Jurgen Ekkelenkamp. Lang and Alderweireld were in the starting line-up for their team, but Ekkelenkamp had to make do with a substitution after less than an hour. Fischer wasn’t even there at all. It was a game in which neither team could make the difference. Lang scored for Club Brugge, but the reigning champion did not go further than 2-2. The RSC Anderlecht of Jan Vertonghen went for a stunt against KRC Genk, but it didn’t work without the absent former Ajax player: 0-2.

Mohammed Daramy and Nicolai Boilesen went to visit Aarhus GF with FC Copenhagen. Boilesen is injured and had to miss the game, but Daramy was in the starting lineup. FC Copenhagen won 0-2, but Daramy had no direct influence on the score. In the absolute final phase he was taken to the side.

Also Benfica, true David Neres under contract, took action. The Portuguese received Gil Vicente FC in-house. Neres and his team booked a comfortable 3-1 victory, with the Brazilian playing the entire match. However, he did not score or provide an assist.

Saturday November 12

Davinson Sanchez got the Leeds United from Tottenham Hotspur Rasmus Kristensen and Pascal Struijk visiting. The Spurs won in a spectacular game full of goals 4-3. Sven Botman With number three Newcastle United got the Chelsea of Hakim Ziyech visiting and narrowly won 1-0 against the Londoners.

Many former Ajax players also played in the Bundesliga. Mitchell Bakker, Daley Sinkgraven and Timothy Fosu-Mensah were visited by VFB Stuttgart with Bayer Leverkusen and won 2-0. Matthew de Ligt, Ryan Gravenberch and Noussair Mazraoui played an away game with Bayern Munich at Schalke 04 and won 0-2.

Friday November 11

Nicolas Tagliafico received with Olympique Lyon competitor OGC Nice. Lyon was in eighth position beforehand and Nice followed in ninth position. With a victory, Lyon would distance itself from the team from Nice, but that victory did not come. Tagliafico was within the lines for the entire match, but Lyon did not get further than a 1-1 draw.

Razvan Marina took on Cremonese with Empoli in-house. Marin’s team distanced itself from the relegation zone with a win and they succeeded. The Romanian had to make do with a place on the bench, but was allowed to come in after more than an hour. With a 2-0 win, Empoli now occupies twelfth place in Serie A.

Borussia Dortmund visited Borussia Münchengladbach. The squad of Sebastien Haller, who is still recovering, went down 4-2. In the Turkish league it took Trabzonspor from Naci Ünuvar and Stefano Denswil up against Ankaragücü. Trabzonspor could do good business against the number fourteen in the competition with a win, but that turned out to be a bridge too far. Trabzonspor did not get further than 1-1 with substitute Ünüvar.
