One is so secret that one can not get a picture of him. Another has produced glasses for the Queen, and then there is him who was about to go bankrupt during the financial crisis.
While Bestseller owner Anders Holch Povlsen sits heavily on the throne as Aarhus’ richest, Denmark’s second largest city hides as many as seven other billionaires. And several of them you have probably never heard of before.
The seven Aarhus billionaires can be found on the list of Denmark’s 100 richest, made by Economic Weekly.
Nr. 1. Anders Holch Povlsen, 134 billion. kr.
With a fortune of as much as 134.6 billion kroner, Anders Holch Povlsen, who lives on the estate Constantinsborg near Brabrand, is hard to beat as Aarhus’ money man number 1.
In fact, his fortune is so large that he can call himself Denmark’s second richest – only beaten by the Billund-based Lego family Kirk Kristiansen, who has a total fortune estimated at 323 billion kroner.
Nr. 2. Henrik Østenkjær Lind, DKK 6.8 billion kr.
There are others in Aarhus who can count the fortune in billions – including the 46-year-old Henrik Østenkjær Lind, whose fortune has increased from 5.5 to 6.8 billion in the past year.
Henrik Lind was born and raised in Aarhus, where he still lives with his wife and children. He has created his fortune at the company Danske Commodities, which traded primarily in electricity. He sold the company in 2018 to Norwegian Equinor for about three billion kroner.
Østenkjær Lind, who enjoys winter swimming at the harbor in Aarhus, has also invested in shares, just as he has owned 15-20 percent of Molslinjen, which he sold in 2020. He has also made a name for himself by contributing with the Salling Funds with each DKK 250 million for a new football stadium in Aarhus.
“I do this because I want to give something back to the city that has been a common thread throughout my life,” he told Jyllands-Posten in this connection.
Nr. 3. Ib Nymark Hegelund, 4.7 billion. kr
Aarhus’ third richest billionaire is best known for being invisible.
The rich man Ib Nymark Hegelund, who lived in Risskov, but who since 2010 has lived in a castle near Lake Lugano in Switzerland, is such an unknown figure that in many articles he is described as ‘secret’ and ‘mysterious’.
He has never appeared in an interview and it is impossible to dust off a picture of him.
It is known, however, that Hegelund, who has a degree in civil engineering, made his fortune at the company Denmark Enzymes, which produced enzymes for food.
He sold the company and the fortune is now in the investment company Imbtech.
Nr. 4. The Lindberg family, 3 billion. kr.
The Lindberg family has created their fortune on glasses – more specifically titanium glasses, which Poul-Jørn Lindberg invented in the mid-80s.
The glasses with the thin spectacle frame became so popular that the Queen quickly made the glasses her favorite.
Poul-Jørn Lindberg’s children, Henrik and Pernille, took over and ran the family empire until, in July, they sold it to Frenchman Kering Eyewear, who also makes glasses for Gucci, Saint Laurent and Bottega Veneta, among others.
Nr. 5. Michael Holm, 2.9 billion. kroner
Aarhus’ fiftieth is the founder of the IT company Systematic, Michael Holm, and his children. In the past year, the family has increased its wealth by almost 50 percent from two billion to 2.9 billion kroner.
Michael Holm grew up in a grocery store in Aarhus and started reading computers by chance.
In 1984, he moved to Aarhus, where he had to work closely with the Danish fleet on IT solutions, and since then he has stayed in the big city.
Systematic was founded in 1985 and provides, among other things, IT solutions for the defense, police and the health and education sector. The company currently has customers in more than 50 countries.
Nr. 6. Olav de Linde, 2.8 billion. kroner
The nobleman Olav de Linde enters in 6th place. He has had such great success with his construction business that his fortune is now valued at 2.8 billion kroner.
In fact, the soon-to-be 70-year-old could have already been stopped as a 30-year-old, as his fortune was already so large at the time that he could have lived off it for the rest of his life, he has previously said.
Olav de Linde grew up in Tilst together with his twin brother, Mogens de Linde, who is also a billionaire. They were the youngest of a group of eight children.
Nr. 6. The Family Covers, 2.6 billion. kroner
The 64-year-old Jørn Tækker and his wife Birgitte Munk own the real estate group Tækkersminde, which was founded 23 years ago and is headquartered at Dok 1 by the harbor in Aarhus.
In the past year, the group has seen an increase in wealth from DKK 2 billion to DKK 2.6 billion.
And it is startling, as Tækker had built up such a large real estate portfolio during the financial crisis and was hit so hard that he was about to go bankrupt.
Since then, the Tækker family has once again gained financial traction, and Tækker Group is behind several development projects – including the new district in northern Aarhus.
When he is not involved in the real estate project, you may meet Jørn Tækker on a run or in cultural life, as he has a great passion for marathon running and culture.
Nr. 8. Mogens de Linde, 2.5 billion. kroner
Mogens de Linde, who lives on a farm in Djursland, has been a major contractor in Aarhus for many years and has made his fortune on real estate investments.
The family’s roots go back to the noble de Linde family, and a new de Linde is already ready to carry on the baton.
Mogens de Linde’s son Kristoffer already has his own real estate company.
