A collection to revisit the work of Amos Oz

These are no less than six novels by Amos Oz – including A story of love and darkness, two collections of short stories, an essay and a conference which are brought together in this Quarto Gallimard. Generously illustrated, this passage through the work was designed in collaboration with the writer and figure of the movement for peace in Israel, who died at the end of 2018.

Where to start? Maybe by Only the sea, the novel in the form of a poem of which he said he was most proud. “In fact, I don’t consider it as belonging to me, he nuanced in an interview with his editor Shira Hadad. I don’t know where it comes from. To believe that he crossed me from side to side to come out on the other side.

We should also read the afterword by Fania Oz-Salzberger, daughter of the author, where she writes: “My father knew it to the core of his bones: if we manage to verbalize the violence, we can solve the Conflicts. In any case, political conflicts.”
