7th Pay Commission: Government of India has released the gratuity and cash payment details of retired central government employees. The Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance has said that for the period from January 2020 to June 2021, the rate of dearness allowance will remain at 17 percent of the basic pay. At the same time, it has been increased to 28 percent from July 2021. As per the Central Civil Services Rules 1972, DA on the date of retirement or death is counted as emoluments for the purpose of computing gratuity. Whereas as per CCS Rules 1972, the pay admissible on the date of retirement and DA thereon is counted for the purpose of computing the cash payment in lieu of leave.

The Government stated that keeping in view the provisions of the said orders dated 23rd April, 2020 and 20th July, 2021, the Central Government employees would be paid gratuity and cash in lieu of leave. From January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021, only 17 per cent of the basic pay of retirees will be the basis for the DA rate.

Which employees will get allowance at what rate

Central government employees who have retired between January 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021, will be paid gratuity and cash payment taking into account the amount of DA. Employees retiring at different times will be given this benefit at different rates.

At what rate will the employees of which period get gratuity?

  • From January 1, 2020 to June 30, 2020 – 21 percent of the basic pay
  • From 1st July, 2020 to 31st December, 2020 – 24% of Basic Pay
  • From 1st January 2021 to 30th May 2021 – 28% of basic pay
